Ending discrimination is our goal. Our main aim is to fight all forms of violence directed both to mother and child, especially in the context of armed conflict and domestic violence. Statistics have shown that women’s decision making and political life remain insignificant. Women continue to face economic, social and cultural obstacles. Gender inequality is very difficult to overcome. Women are underrepresented in society as a whole and discriminated against due to foolish traditional beliefs and cultural attitudes. Corrupt and inefficient justice systems are still unfavorable to women, making them more and more vulnerable to acts of violence, especially in areas of armed conflict. One in every fourteen women has been sexually assaulted by someone other than an intimate partner. A study indicates that thirty percent of them do report a physical or sexual assault, and the highest incidence rates are found in central sub-Saharan Africa and southern sub-Saharan Africa. Sadly, most of these cases are underreported due to continued stigmatization. We think that eradicating GBV and supporting those affected is very important to our organization. The consequences of GBV affect everyone, creating a need to apply a community approach. We hope to work with our partners to mobilize women, raise awareness, engage men and work with them to tackle Gender-Based Violence and Female Genital Mutilation. In the process, we hope to be agents of justice and peace, supporting social and economic resources, leading to sustainable independence and building a women’s center for peace and advancement in The Gambia.
