Want A Thriving Economy? Focus on Financial Awareness and Education for Women and Girls!

Sharing is caring!

An Economy that thrives for everyone is possible when we embark on financial awareness and education. But education for whom? It is the financial awareness and education for women and girls. “The question of how women can individually and collectively gain economic empowerment is still very much an issue”.

Women seems to learn financial matter and its value differently from men according to three Economic experts Angela Hung, Joanne Yoong and Elizabeth Brown. Like in many fields of study or in practice the way and method women know something is and will always be different from men. Sadly, when it comes to money matter it is even worst and the people who seem to be affected most are the widows, elderly and the poor.

Women seem to be less advantage when it comes to money because they seem not have the required prerequisite or the skills necessary in handling money. But what might have led to the is knowledge deficiency or skills according to them is the fact that there is a big reduction in “financial literacy” which leads to less “economic power” in their homes which creates a huge gap in information women can share with family members.

Another factor is the economic and political underpinnings which too seems very unfriendly towards women. In Africa women cannot be engaged in helping to create a better economy when the political environment is unpredictable and unstable. No matter how flaw our African democracies are, we should all endeavor to give peace a chance and it is only then we can develop. We should be focusing on teaching women more about the “labor market” and not about “the marriage market”. In Africa, for example, women are valueless and not only in Africa, but also in the West the trend seems to be very alarming and cause for concerned. According to them it is even more misappropriate in single women and I would add “black women”. If women are the best in managing home finances should be a good reason why when given the right environment, they will do better than men in the corporate world by creating an economy that thrives. So, for women to create an economy that thrives will requires both financial awareness and education.
